Josh Jackson of Built Environment Blog has a great article in this month's GOOD Magazine about alternative ways to manage our streets so that they move people, not just cars. Most of the prevailing theories are summarized right here, in decongestion.

Hi,
Let me be the first to congratulate you on becoming a blogger of note.
Regards,

Nice!!!
GOOD JOB I WILL NEVER BE AS INSPIRING AS YOU!!! ITS GOOD TO HAVE PEOPLE LIKE YOU AROUND!!
In India, streets for cars often have a "people traffic jam" as a temple procession passes by or a wedding party sings and dances and simultaneously moves ahead of your car. As you drive through a market zone, the car inches along as men and women bargain with vendors on the price of the season's mangoes! Life in india is different...There is congestion and yet there is a vibrancy that is unparalleled.
The growth of our streets has been organic in the past and it is now a challenging task to bring in principles of street planning into indian cities that see urbanisation take over the lives of people. Urban planning authorities in cities like Bombay, Delhi and Chennai design differently and design coherently for the metropolitan indian. However, in the small towns it is a world of 'survival of the fittest' as people and cars find their own innovative solutions.
Your blog is very interesting and the choice of links is great as well!
